PhD student (4-year) in the OPUS grant

We are looking for a PhD student to join the project team in the OPUS grant to work on the role of IFIT2 complexes in the immune regulation in macrophages. The project aims to discover post-transcriptional mechanisms that regulate expression of cytokines at the first contact of immune cells with a pathogen. Our findings may have an impact on the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases or acute inflammatory reactions such as the "cytokine storm" accompanying COVID-19 morbidity.

Work in the project will include:

  • cloning, mutagenesis, DNA, RNA and protein purification and further manipulation using standard molecular techniques (for example PCR, qPCR, Western blot), protein-RNA interaction studies in vitro
  • cell culture, protein-RNA interaction studies in cell culture, antiviral and cytokine response assays, construction and characterization of cell lines, eCLIP and RNA sequencing.

Required qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, biotechnology, chemistry or a related discipline.*
  • Previous experience working in a molecular biology laboratory will be an advantage.
  • Very good knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology.
  • Very good level of written and spoken English.

The candidates should provide the following information with the application:

  • Motivation letter,
  • 2 Letters of recommendation (preferably) or 2 e-mail contact details for referees (including one from the thesis supervisor)
  • CV including: grade average from the studies, awards, studentships, major conference presentations, internships, publications, and any other relevant information.
  • Clause of consent (“I agree to the processing of personal data provided in my application (CV, cover letter, and other submitted documents) by the University of Warsaw for realising my recruitment process.”; Please sign and date the consent) – see e.g. http://www.chem.uw.edu.pl/oferty-pracy

The offer includes a 4-year (48 months) studentship of 5000 PLN gross (around 3780 PLN net) /month and the enrollment in the Doctoral school at the University of Warsaw. The position is available with a start at the earliest from February-March 2022, but no later than October 2022.

The application should be sent to recruit.gorna@gmail.com by January 15th 2022 with a reference in the topic OPUS-PhD. The most promising candidates will be invited for an interview.
