Mikołaj and Ammar win BioLAB studentships

Apr 21, 2022

The BioLAB programme is run by The Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission and allows talented MSc or PhD students from Poland to spend a year working in a US laboratory, often followed by a second year of post-graduate work.

This year, both of our applicants were awarded these competitive studentships for the year 2022/2023.

Mikołaj Kuska completed BSc and MSc theses in our laboratory and continues his studies at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw for a second Master's degree. Mikołaj will use the BioLAB studentship to visit Joachimiak lab at the Center for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases at the The University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, USA.

Ammar Danasumi is a NAWA Łukasiewicz-funded student in the Master's in Biotechnology course at the Warsaw University of Technology who joined our lab to pursue a Master's thesis. Ammar was offered the BioLAB studentship to join Engin Özkan lab at the University of Chicago, USA.

This is the second time in a row that our students won BioLAB studentships - our Master's student and last year's BioLAB laureate Patrycja Szybowska is currently pursuing a 2-year internship at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

We are proud of our talented young researchers and wish them all the best in this great scientific adventure!

UPDATE: Ammar sadly needed to decline this opportunity as he has decided to accept another offer to pursue his PhD studies at KAUST from Oct 2022. We are very impressed by the competitive options offered to our students.
