Natalia visits VU Amsterdam for mRNA display

Oct 21, 2024

Natalia Żebrecka has visited the laboratory of Seino Jongkees at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam for 2 weeks to apply the mRNA display method in her work. This method can yield cyclic peptides that bind to target proteins and can serve as starting points for drug candidates.

In our lab, Natalia is working towards her engineering thesis in Medical Chemistry under the supervision of Dr Maria Klimecka. Her thesis is part of our project towards development of new antibiotics based on the targeted protein degradation principle. Natalia has cloned and purified our target bacterial proteases, which she next used in the mRNA display assay in the Jongkees lab. Together with Seino Jongkees lab and Lindon Moodie lab (University of Uppsala) we will continue our collaborative work on new antimicrobials.

Congratulations to Natalia on the very productive visit and gaining some great experience abroad! Thank you Seino for hosting, we're looking forward to the continuation of our collaboration!
