The Malik and Jaworski teams have discovered regulation of AP2 via its phosphorylation on S45-µ2 by the kinase p70S6K, which plays a role in clathrin-mediated endocytosis in mammalian cells.
Ayomide Fasemire from our lab has contributed docking and molecular dynamics simulations to show that S45 is accessible to p70S6K, and that its phosphorylation indeed promotes the open conformation of the AP2 complex.
